Patriots bring back Deion Branch

Posted Oct. 11 at 12:31 PM

I just heard that the Patriots have traded for Deion Branch, adding some depth to their receiving corps after dealing away Randy Moss. The deal is for a fourth-round pick.

This is a surprise, in my opinion. A fourth-round pick, that's a surprisingly high pick for a guy who hasn't really worked out for the Seahawks -- they're probably happy to get rid of his contract. And I don't see him adding too much to the Patriots' receiving corps.

For New England, I'm not sure Branch will even be active for a lot of games. They've got Wes Welker, Brandon Tate and Julian Edelman, and tight end Aaron Hernandez is very much like a wide receiver. I see him as little more than an insurance policy should Welker get hurt.

The bigger impact (fantasy wise) is with the Seahawks. Removing Branch creates more playing time for Mike Williams, Deon Butler, Brandon Stokley and Golden Tate.

Carroll and Schneider are not afraid to pull the trigger. These guys are playing fantasy football with a real team. It is pretty cool.

So basically the Patriots got Branch and a third round pick for Moss and a 4th round pick. That is terrible.

Seattle basically just traded Deion Branch for Marshawn Lynch (gave up a 4th for Lynch, got 4th back for Branch). Nice!
