Justin, after this week I'm going to be 2-4 and I'm starting to panic. Look at my roster and tell me what I should do. I'm thinking of trading Foster for possibly a rb and wr. My team is scoring a good amount of points. Coming into this weekend I was fourth in points but sixth (out of ten) in the standings. This week I will finish in the top 2 or 3 in points but have already lost. Do I stand pat and hope that eventually I will win or do I make a move? PPR...start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2WR, 1 Flex, 1 TE, 1 Def, 1 K QB's: Flacco, Vick RB's: Foster, Rice, D. Williams, Wells, Tolbert WR: Fitz, Smith (Car), H. Ward, TO, Knox, Williams (TB) TE: Z. Miller DEF: Chargers (picking up teams each week based on matchups) K: Rackers

How's this for parity? Unless CJ scores 31+ or MJD scores 37+ tonight, there will be 1 game separating the 1st place team and last place team (8 team league). Except for a tie back in wk 2, all 8 teams could've been 3-3 after this week.

Hello to all. Kind of a lackluster matchup this evening, but then better matchups - sometimes much better - have produced a string of really awful prime-time games lately. Here's hoping for better.
Posted by KEVIN DALLAS | Oct. 18 at 10:34 AM
hey Justin, how many points did your FC team score this week...31 for me...18 from QBs and 13 from Ks.
Posted by KEVIN DALLAS | Oct. 18 at 10:35 AM
455 overall btw
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 10:46 AM
Chris: The key to trading is always to get better value than you give up, and the way to do that (since people are always suspicious of trade offers) is to find places where you value players differently than they do. Looking at your roster, I don't think the answer is to deal Foster; you ought to value him the same way everyone does at this point: as a legit No. 1 running back. But you might have a fair chance to deal a receiver for someone you see playing better for the rest of the season. I really like Knox to emerge as an every-week stud now, and I also like Williams so I wouldn't worry much about depth. What do you think you could get back for Fitz or Ward, or even the two together? Otherwise I'd hang in there. Vick could come back to carry you, and even if not Flacco should play better than he has. And your core of Foster, Rice and even Knox should be very solid from here on out. Keep the faith.

Titans snuck in a TD while I was reading questions and responding to the first one. Kenny Britt may be the key to their season. Having a passing game - as they did last week vs. Dallas (Britt caught 4 for 86 and a TD) - would keep lanes open for C.J., and they'd make the playoffs.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 10:50 AM
Roy: I designed the JFNFL - the first fantasy league I've ever created myself - to maximize difficulty, then invited a bunch of owners I thought highly of to join to maximize parity, and we're in roughly the same place. No team better than 4-2 or worse than 2-4. But that's probably true of many leagues in 2010. Weirdo season so far.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 10:53 AM
Kevin: I'm done for the week at 49 total points. 16 from kickers, 9 from QBs, 12 each from Foster and Maclin. But I don't think this was a week for the highlight reel for anyone, really. I'm back up to 232nd overall.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 10:55 AM
Kevin: By the way, you killed us on the trade this week. Tolbert outscored Turner and Nicks BY HIMSELF. Not that it did you much good, either. Ugly, ugly week in the JFNFL.
Posted by KEVIN DALLAS | Oct. 18 at 10:57 AM
I hear ya...bad week all around, although somehow I moved up overall in the Free Salary Cap league.
Posted by KEVIN DALLAS | Oct. 18 at 10:57 AM
definitely wished I had started Maclin instead of...I don't know...Austin
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 10:57 AM
Titans 7, Jag-wires 0 after one drive each. Uh-oh. If I'm live-blogging, odds are pretty good you're getting a blowout.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:01 AM
Kevin: Maclin's big week was at least partly a function of Jackson's injury. No sense worrying about that stuff. Lucky for me (especially because I've been telling everyone to buy him even in the points games) it sounds like Gates will be OK. Might even play in Week 7.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:02 AM
There's a sentence you don't hear often: "It's good to see Vince limp off the field."
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:03 AM
Although I'm pretty sure Pete Carroll likes that sentence.
Posted by KEVIN DALLAS | Oct. 18 at 11:04 AM
Yeah...he would've.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:05 AM
Speaking of Pete Carroll, how 'bout that NFC West? 3-0 this week, ARZ on its bye.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:07 AM
My eyes still say that's the worst division ever, but the records go 3-2, 3-2, 3-3, 1-5. Like I said earlier, weirdo season so far.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:10 AM
TEN is home vs. PHI next week. If you need an emergency QB, Kerry Collins is not your guy even if Vince misses time. Eagles are 9th against the pass, and that's one of the last schemes I ever want a fill-in going against.
Posted by KEVIN DALLAS | Oct. 18 at 11:11 AM
hey look at the NFC North for a minute...if Min beats GB and da Bears lose at home to Washington, then you have 4-3, 3-3, 3-4 and Detroit (who cares?).
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:12 AM
Titans punt. Jags will now punt within how many plays? Four? Six? Anyone want to bet on this?
Posted by KEVIN DALLAS | Oct. 18 at 11:12 AM
hey...I was calling you earlier today to ask if I should pick up Colt McCoy...kidding of course.
Posted by KEVIN DALLAS | Oct. 18 at 11:13 AM
the O/U is 5, i'll take the over.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:13 AM
There's a first down on two plays. So the answer is six.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:14 AM
Hey! Pass for 9 on first down! Maybe this drive will end in an INT instead of a punt!
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:15 AM
What could possibly say more about the state of the Jaguars than Jaws singing the praises of ... Marcedes Lewis? Really?
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:20 AM
Punt finally comes on the tenth play (penalty negated one).
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:20 AM
But the Jags had a ten-play drive! Kind of.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:25 AM
Penalties negated two plays, actually. There is no more perfect summary of my typical live-blog game than that drive: Jags pick up three first downs, punt twice.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:30 AM
Six carries, nine yards for C.J. I need him to get a few points tonight so my brother (whose Norfolk Ironclads have already beaten my Mississippi Queens) won't have the JFNFL's highest score this week.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:30 AM
Now we get the first-down holding call. Yup. PRIME time.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:33 AM
Second down? Delay of game.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:34 AM
Third down? INT. Bail on this game RIGHT NOW. Run away, don't walk.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:38 AM
Here's a pet peeve of mine. Why is the Jacksonville NFL team named the Jaguars? Is anything remotely place-appropriate about that? You know who likes simple alliteration of this sort? Small children. Young, small, stupid children. And the Titans probably like it, too.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:40 AM
Titans score one the announcers call "too easy." Ugh. 14-0 TEN.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:47 AM
Three and out, then a 26-yard net on the punt. I don't suppose anyone else would like to handle the rest of this live-blog ...
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:52 AM
Since we have the Titans tonight, note that I'm carrying Javon Ringer in every draft league. He's good and his name is just awesome. If C.J. misses a start or two you WILL face a bidding war for Ringer. So pick him up now instead, unless you have a super-deep roster - and even then it's probably not as deep as you believe it to be.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:54 AM
3rd & goal from just inside the 10. If the Jags don't hold here this game is over.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 11:56 AM
Held. 17-0. Let's face it, it's probably over anyway.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 12:00 PM
Kerry Collins on for JAX. Game over, indeed.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 12:03 PM
HERE'S YOUR ONLY HOPE FOR A HIGHLIGHT FOR THE REST OF THIS LIVE-BLOG: In one corner of our apartment, the walls are very thin and we can hear what's going on in the apartment next door. Right now, my girlfriend tells me, what's going on in that apartment is that our neighbor, who I'll call Melissa Pencilcase, is alternately singing one line of Rihanna's "Only Girl (In The World)" - that line being "'cause I'm the only girl in the world" - and burping. Loudly.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 12:07 PM
Edwards is driving his way into a start or two. Jags' whole season may be over.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 12:12 PM
Fumble kills the drive. First half comes to a merciful end.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 12:29 PM
Second half underway. Edwards throws a pick. Gruden characterizes the throw as the second of "back-to-back terrible decisions." The first was putting a waiver claim in on Trent Edwards.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 12:31 PM
20-0 TEN.
Posted by KEVIN DALLAS | Oct. 18 at 12:32 PM
Shows you how close attention I pay to transactions. I had no idea he got signed by anyone.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 12:34 PM
Congratulations to the makers of the Saw movies for having made seven of them. That and the Twinkie are what makes this a great country.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 12:37 PM
Hey! No J-D this series! We may actually see the Jags forfeit!
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 12:41 PM
According to Wikipedia - and, really, who would've changed this? - Deji Karim's full name at birth was Abdul-Gafar Olatokumbo Ayodeji Lamar Karim.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 12:42 PM
He was born in Oklahoma City. Glad they threw the Lamar in there. Otherwise the name would've looked exotic.
Posted by KEVIN DALLAS | Oct. 18 at 12:42 PM
That's close to my real name.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 12:43 PM
Kevin: It appears to be using the same alphabet as my real name. And damn near the whole alphabet at that.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 12:48 PM
It's 20-3 now. I know you aren't watching anymore, so I'll tell you when anyone scores.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 12:54 PM
They're ripping C.J.'s receiving ability, but he caught 50 passes for 503 yards in 2009. Led the team in catches and was third in receiving yards.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 01:04 PM
23-3. I'm barely watching. 13:18 and ticking in the fourth quarter. Announcers are earnestly discussing the hardness of Jeff Fisher's nose.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 01:08 PM
Jags convert 4 & 1 inside the Titans' 20. That dive is the best play Edwards has made this season.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 01:10 PM
Edwards converts 4 & inches inside the 10. I stand corrected.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 01:12 PM
Looks like he'll have to convert one more to score.
Posted by Brian Grzybowski | Oct. 18 at 01:13 PM
This may have already been discussed, by you or the guys in the booth (I went ahead and caught up with a few shows I had DVRed once Edwards came off the bench) but this was a Monday Night game for first place and that didn't look anywhere near a capacity crowd. This team might get really blown up in the next year or two, right? New coach staff (100%) and new location (has to be 75%, right?). New QB as well. I was shocked when they said Garrard has been in the league for 9 years...he's not going to get better anymore than David Carr is.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 01:13 PM
Edwards catches Titans offside on 3rd. Incomplete.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 01:13 PM
Rolls and throws it away on 3rd take two.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 01:14 PM
Throws a pick on 4th. MY GOD.
Posted by Brian Grzybowski | Oct. 18 at 01:15 PM
He should have checked it down.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 01:18 PM
Brian: I grew up in Tampa and went to law school in Gainesville. Know what there is in Jacksonville? Paper mills and stench; that's about it. Green Bay makes immeasurably more sense as an NFL home city. My vote is that they move to Vancouver so the Bills won't be the only team in Canada.
Posted by Brian Grzybowski | Oct. 18 at 01:21 PM
I was in the Navy and we used to go to JAX to pick up our Helicopter Detachment and what surprised us all about Jacksonville is that it's....well, it's country folks to put it nicely. I think a lot of us thought "How the hell is this a city?"
Posted by Brandon Eleff | Oct. 18 at 01:21 PM
Sorry you're forced to watch football, my brother. The top of the 9th was a fun time.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 01:22 PM
Brian: He WANTED to check it down. That's his favorite. But he did go to Stanford, so he knows he can't do that on 4th down. Give the Bills credit for that much. Stanford starts the first few, then Harvard takes over. We can multiply fractions, and we've read The Trial in the original German!
Posted by Brandon Eleff | Oct. 18 at 01:23 PM
Remember this article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A36524-2005Jan25.html "Jacksonville makes Tampa look like Paris!"
Posted by Brian Grzybowski | Oct. 18 at 01:23 PM
Why the hell is Johnson still in there?
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 01:24 PM
Brian: And not beautiful country folks, either.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 01:24 PM
Brandon: Every game the Yankees lose is a fun time. I watched the top of the 9th.
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 01:26 PM
Brian: Because he wants his numbers. Which is why we love him. In related news, my brother (not Brandon, Evan) no longer has the JFNFL's high score for the week, so I'm OK with what's happened this evening. Kind of. I'd be more OK if it were over already.
Posted by KEVIN DALLAS | Oct. 18 at 01:27 PM
yes...more Yankee haters!!
Posted by Brian Grzybowski | Oct. 18 at 01:29 PM
The last advertisement was for Bose Headphones. It's almost as if the guys at the beer and truck companies knew nobody would still be watching the game at this point.
Posted by KEVIN DALLAS | Oct. 18 at 01:29 PM
Does Johnson still only have the one catch for 11 yards?
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 01:29 PM
No, THAT is why we love him. Titans go for it on 4th & 5. Johnson shoots outside for a long TD that puts him over 100 yards on the night. Lots of fantasy matchups won on that play. And such class from TEN!
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 01:32 PM
30-3, and that will be your final. But it was a good game, really!
Posted by JUSTIN ELEFF | Oct. 18 at 01:35 PM
I'm going to cry myself to sleep. Better luck next week, prime time. Goodeve, kids.
