Floyd, Gates won't play for San Diego

Posted Dec. 16 at 08:29 AM

Malcom Floyd and Antonio Gates are inactive for the Chargers tonight. That makes Vincent Jackson look like a lot more appealing option -- he'll be their go-to receiver -- and could make for a more run-oriented game plan.

The news has been reported by the NFL Network.

This should cause a decrease in Philip Rivers' production. San Diego's best receiver, meanwhile, should be Jackson. Randy McMichael will start at tight end (with Floyd out, he should see a few balls). Darren Sproles should catch a few balls out of the backfield. The second and third receivers should be Legedu Naanee and Seyi Ajirotutu, but Naanee has been battling a hamstring injury himself. Naanee is probable on the injury report and practiced fully on Tuesday and Wednesday, so he's the No. 2 receiving threat on the team in our eyes.

The receiver injuries should result in more running plays. San Francisco ranks 10th in run defense but is beat up at linebacker, with two starters (Takeo Spikes and Patrick Willis) listed as questionable. Last week at running back, Mike Tolbert and Ryan Mathews split time.

For the 49ers, Joe Nedney (knee) definitely won't play, so Jeff Reed will kick.

So where would Naanee fall in your wr rankings now? Desperate for a wr in a ppr league. I need to start 2 of obamanu, gaffney, Gibson, or louis Murphy. I could still pick up naanee and start him if he would be one of the top 2 of that bunch. Thanks.

Sorry. I had to step out and am just seeing this now. Broncos may have to start Tebow, which will scratch Gaffney. I think you're looking at Gibson for one spot.
