Dynasty? That's the question after David Dodds' Footballguys team won the Fantasy Index Auction League, for the second year in a row and third time in five years. This is the league assembled via the auction format for our magazine back in May.
Dodds' priciest buys of Rashard Mendenhall, Roddy White and Antonio Gates panned out, and budget purchases like David Garrard and Santonio Holmes also paid off. Dodds and our Draft League winner Lou Tranquilli had two common players on their teams: Mike Thomas, who was a $1 auction buy and a15th-rounder, but finished the year as a top-25 wide receiver; and Matthew Stafford, who played in just three games. Stafford, apparently, has those championship intangibles.
Footballguys won the Fantasy Index Mock Auction League by 3.5 games over Cory Bonini's KFFL team and Scott Pianowski's Yahoo! Sports team. This was a hands-off league with no transactions of any kind during the season, and for many it became a war of attrition; tough to win if your players get hurt. Final standings can be viewed right here.
