Seahawks fans hate Hasselbeck

Posted Jan. 06 at 06:14 AM

The Seahawks are going with Matt Hasselbeck as their starter. Charlie Whitehurst started in the NFC West-clinching win over the Rams, but he'll be their backup.

Pete Carroll made the announcement today. The guys had split the first-unit snaps in practice Wednesday.

It's not a decision that the Seahawks fans like. If you read the comments left on the story (and there are already 75 of them), the vast majority wanted to see Whitehurst. Seahawks fans, clearly, have no interest in seeing the team re-sign Hasselbeck at the end of the year.

Seahawks fans were chanting for Whitehurst a few weeks back.

I think it's the right decision (to go with the veteran). Hasselbeck has a lot more passing ability, and he's also won four playoff games in a row at Qwest Field. With the Saints nursing injuries and not being as good away from home, I think Hasselbeck -- if he's on his game -- could help Seattle to an upset in this on. Whitehurst, on the other hand, couldn't even win the backup job in San Diego and has done essentially nothing as a pro.

On my board, I've got the Seahawks having a 25 percent chance of swinging an upset.

KJR-AM in Seattle conducted a poll a few days ago in which they asked the same question. It was the kind where fans could use a phone to send their answers via text. Hasselbeck was the overwhelming favorite in the poll. It's just that the Whitehurst supporters are vocal.

It's not going to matter. The Saints B team is likely going to smoke the Seahawks in Seattle. Brees throws the ball 50 times...no running game to speak of...and it won't matter.
