Experts Poll: Dynasty Rogues wins Defenses

Posted Jan. 30 at 03:09 AM

Alan Satterlee of Dynasty Rogues is the winner of the Defense portion of the Experts Poll that appeared in the last issue of Fantasy Football Index magazine. Dynasty Rogues won the entire poll two years ago; after slipping to 8th in 2009, they’re again moving up the leaderboard.

Scott Sachs (Perfect Season Fantasy Football) finished in second place in this category, and Michael Nazarek (Fantasy Football Mastermind) took third.

Defenses were scored using the system of 6 points for TDs, and 2 points for every sack, interception, fumble and safety. Touchdowns include scores on returns of interceptions and opponents fumbles, as well as kickoffs, punts and blocked kicks. Arizona scored 3 TDs that didn’t count (2 offensive fumble recoveries and a fake field goal by Jay Feely).

A reminder on how the scoring works. If a defenses scored 100 fantasy points, that would be his “multiplier” or scoring number. If you ranked him first, that pick would be worth 2,000 points – 20 x 100. If you ranked him 2nd, that would be worth 1,900 points – 19 x 100. Third would equal 1,800 points (18 x 100) and so on.

That system might be unscientific or overally scientific (we’re not saying it’s perfect), but it’s one way to do it. And using that system, Satterlee comes out on top.

With two categories scored, David Dorey (The Huddle) is the current overall leader, following by Nazarek and Sachs. But the more telling categories are still to come.

There is one regular Joe in the lineup this year. Lance Ralls, who is a reader of Fantasy Football Index. We plugged him in there to see how he’d do. So far, he’s finished 16th in kickers and 14th in defenses.

We also are scoring the picks that appeared in the news-stand edition of Fantasy Football Index. They haven’t done well yet either, finishing below-average in defenses and next-to-last in kickers.
