Experts Poll: Sachs takes Tight Ends, overall lead

Posted Jan. 30 at 11:05 PM

Scott Sachs of Perfect Season Fantasy Football has won the Tight Ends portion of our Experts Poll, and he’s the new overall leader in the competition.

In our complex scoring system (which awards varying levels of points for all 20 selections by all 20 experts) Sachs finished with 19,460 points, 13 more than Cory Bonini (KFFL) and 61 more than Chris Liss (RotoWire.com).

The tight ends position was heavily influenced by injuries this year. Dallas Clark, Jermichael Finley, Owen Daniels and Antonio Gates all missed substantial playing time, and that kind of throws a monkey wrench into the scorecard for those were high on those guys. Alan Satterlee, for example, was the only guy to go with Finley No. 1, and he missed in last by over 500 points. (I can feel Satterlee’s pain; I also had Finley as the No. 1 tight end on the board, which was the big reseason why the Fantasy Index picks also didn’t grade out worth a damn).

If I get the time in a week or two, I may go back and also tabulate scores on a per-game basis – see how much stuff changes. But this is how we have always graded the choices, and it’s how the official results will be tabulated.

On the overall board, Sachs is now the overall leader (and this is with the Kickers, Tight Ends and Defenses graded). He’s followed by David Dorey (The Huddle) and Michael Nazarek (Fantasy Football Mastermind).

A reminder on how the scoring works. If a tight end scored 100 fantasy points, that would be his “multiplier” or scoring number. If you ranked him first, that pick would be worth 2,000 points – 20 x 100. If you ranked him 2nd, that would be worth 1,900 points – 19 x 100. Third would equal 1,800 points (18 x 100) and so on.

The top 11 finishers in this poll will win spots in the Mock Draft League that will be published in the 2011 edition of Fantasy Football Index magazine.
