Around the NFL
The Super Bowl is over, so folks are starting to turn their attention to the 2012 season (which could have 16 or 18 games, or it could be shortened by a labor stoppage). According to the guys at the gambling site BoDog.com, the Packers and Patriots are the teams must likely to win Super Bowl XLVI.
The website (and for their page, you can click here) has six other teams just behind those two: Steelers, Chargers, Ravens, Colts, Saints and Jets. Then there are four teams between 16-1 and 18-1, the Falcons, Cowboys, Eagles and Giants. Only one other team, the Bears, is graded at better than average (they’re at 25-1, while average would be 32-1).
The bottom four teams, all at 75-1 or worse, are Arizona, Seattle, Buffalo and Carolina (with the Panthers at 125-1).
What teams do you think are out of place? To me, it looks like a pretty solid list. I would move a lot of teams up or down a little bit (the Giants ahead of the Cowboys, for example), but I don’t have any big complaints.

I actually think they're a little low on Seattle. Weak as they are, they still have to be considered the slight favorite in the NFC West (or maybe St. Louis), and as we saw with Green Bay and even the Jets, playoff seeding maybe isn't that big a deal these days. Any team with a better than average shot at the playoffs, which Seattle has thanks to its division, seems to deserve a better shot at winning a Super Bowl. By their odds, Detroit is twice as likely as Seattle to win. I think we can agree that Seattle is far more likely to earn a playoff spot than Detroit, just based on the division they play in. Heck, Seattle was a couple of turnovers against Chicago away from hosting the NFC Championship Game this year, and they were a bad team. They probably won't be worse next year. I would also tend to put both the Giants and Eagles higher than Atlanta -- I think both of those teams were better last year and will be better next year, too. Both those teams were a lot closer to beating Green Bay late in the season than Atlanta was.
