Around the NFL
Good news in the NFL's labor dispute? Let's call it that, because it beats the heck out of complaining. The NFL owners and NFLPA have agreed to federal mediation of their dispute. It doesn't mean things will get solved any sooner, but bringing in an impartial observer sure can't hurt.
You can read about it right here. Mediation is set to begin on Friday. It isn't binding; no one is going to tell the owners or players that they have to agree to the mediator's recommendations.
But given the reports we've had so far -- posturing including owners condescending to players, flip remarks back and forth in the media -- and gloomy prognostications of how long this particular dispute will last, it at least seems to be a positive.
