NFL switches to new logo

Posted Mar. 30 at 02:47 PM

The NFL has begun the switchover to its new logo.

Gone is the classic version with the 25 stars. The new version contains only eight stars (one for each division), and the football is more three-dimensional -- made to look like the football on the Lombardi Trophy.

The new logo should be easier to stick in small spots -- like on cellphones, iPods and laptops. It also will make it easier on those who have to sewn the image on jerseys and other official league gear.

I'm not sure when, exactly, the switchover started. Maybe it was a week or two ago and it just never dawned on me. But I see it now appearing prominently at the league's website. The old image was part of the league's official "Draft Combine" logo. Other than appearances on "Throwback" merchandise, that apparently will be the last we'll see of it. Maybe a team will paint it on its field for one of those "Throwback" games; we'll see.
