Around the NFL
Early mock drafts have the Dolphins lined up with the consensus top running back, Alabama's Mark Ingram. It makes sense, with both Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams headed for unrestricted free agency. A quick look at Miami's roster makes it clear that the team needs some major upgrades at the offensive skill positions.
Omar Kelly of Fort Lauderdale's Sun-Sentinel breaks down the team's offensive depth chart in this column. It's not a pretty picture. The team isn't sold on Chad Henne. It has next to nothing at running back under contract.
And at wide receiver? According to Kelly, Brandon Marshall wasn't used properly last year, and neither Davone Bess nor Brian Hartline have enough speed to stretch the field. Adds Kelly, "Everyone else on the roster should be viewed as developmental projects at this point."
Hard to believe that the team that won the AFC East in 2009 might not currently have a single fantasy-worthy option outside Marshall right now, but that's where things are. Few teams may be more anxious for free agency to start and the draft to take place than the Dolphins, because they need a lot of new pieces.
