Around the NFL
Cam Newton is probably the most controversial figure in the upcoming draft, but love him or hate him, most agree he'll be selected very early. That's not the case with Jake Locker, who not only has drawn a wide range of conflicting opinions from draft observers, but is being projected anywhere from the top 10 to outside the first round.
Locker, at least, nailed his University of Washington Pro Day, drawing accolades for his accuracy -- the biggest question mark about him -- after completing all but 2 passes in the controlled environment. Still, how much does that really mean? One media type pointed out that most of his throws were of the shorter variety, and regardless, with no defense or pass rush to worry about, quarterbacks do tend to post gaudy numbers at their Pro Days.
Washington (selecting 10th) and Minnesota (selecting 12th) are two of the quarterback-needy teams that have been connected to Locker thus far. The Titans (8th) and Jaguars (16th) have also been mentioned. If one of those teams really does like him, it's tough to see him falling out of the top 15, let alone the first round.
Just another one of the quarterbacks that will make Day 1 of the draft extremely interesting at the end of the month.
