Gates -- per-game production

Posted Jun. 28 at 02:46 AM

Antonio Gates last year put together quite a season – partial season, anyway. His numbers, when adjusted to per-game production (he missed six weeks) were better than any tight ends in the last 11 years.

Gates caught 10 TDs in 10 games; no tight end ever has started at least half the season and averaged a touchdown per game. And Gates averaged 78 yards per game, 2nd-most behind Tony Gonzalez (2004) in that time span.

Note that of the top 16 tight ends in the last 11 years, Gates holds six of those spots.
