Around the NFL
It’s looking more and more likely that for the Broncos, the first order of business when free agency starts will be to find a new running back. Knowshon Moreno hasn’t been impressive, and he doesn’t seem to fit the new offense being put in by John Fox.
As a rookie, Moreno got outperformed by journeyman Correll Buckhalter, and he didn’t really pick it up in his second year. He catches the ball well, but he doesn’t break many tackles or hit holes decisively.
Woody Paige covers the team for the Denver Post, and he says Fox says adding a running back will be the top priority for the team in free agency. DeAngelo Williams played for Fox in Carolina; he might be that guy (though other backs also will be available).
Writes Paige:
What I do know — from someone who worked closely with Josh and is someone I trust to tell me the truth — is that after the draft, McDaniels and the staff believed privately they made a big mistake on Moreno. He was not what they thought. He hasn't been tough, smart, motivated, if that's what you're asking. He has been a bust. I've said it before. He's not a great clubhouse guy. Interpret that how you want, and he's been a wimp on the field.
Moreno catches the ball well enough that he could be their backup and third-down back, but I don’t expect him to carry much of the load this year.

"wimp on the field" = pretty much describes the Donkeys under McDaniels.
