Around the NFL
As the NFL lockout reportedly races to its conclusion, there have been various reports about how soon free agency could start, including mentions of Wednesday and next Saturday. Now there's a new possibility: TODAY.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the timeline currently being discussed would allow teams to begin transactions, including signing their own free agents, as soon as this afternoon. That might finally bring closure to the heated speculation about where players like Matt Hasselbeck, Kevin Kolb, and DeAngelo Williams will land. The transactions wouldn't be official until Saturday, but they could be agreed upon as "done deals" this afternoon.
(This is assuming, of course, that some deals haven't already been agreed upon, which has seemingly been the case with some players, most notably Kolb.)
In short, the wild free agency period that has seemed certain to accompany the end of the lockout might just be a few hours away from starting. Get ready.
