Giants / trying for 3rd straight blowout

Posted Oct. 05 at 10:18 AM

The Giants host Seattle Sunday, and it's a rare matchup of a team that has beaten another team by 30-plus points in back-to-back games. New York won 44-6 against the Seahawks in 2008, then won 41-7 at Qwest Field last year.

This kind of matchup has happened only 14 times since the merger in 1970. So on average, just once every three years.

But it will happen twice this season. The Packers host the Raiders in Week 14).

Of the previous 14 of these type of games, the bully team went only 8-6. Only one of these teams actually won the third meeting by 30-plus points. That would be the 49ers in the mid-‘90s, who actually beat the Falcons in five of six games by 30-plus points. The Vikings came close in 1990, beating the Saints 29-3.
