Clock could be ticking on Edge

I think that Arizona will select a running back in the draft a week from Saturday. Not necessarily in the first round, but definitely before the end of the second.

Edgerrin James has been a great back for years and years. He’s run for more yards than anybody since the Colts selected him No. 4 overall in 1999. But James is starting to slow down, and he’ll be 30 in August. He’s also not really what Ken Whisenhunt is looking for in a running back.

James is a patient runner, best suited for running those stretch plays that the Colts like to use. But Whisenhunt is more interested in a back that will pound between the tackles; he’s looking for more speed and more power.

Whether the Cardinals select a running back who would totally replace James or simply somebody who’ll come in and share time remains to be seen. But they’ll definitely grab somebody early in the upcoming draft.
