Around the NFL
Probably a year too late, but Steve McNair is retiring.
He’ll make the announcement at 1 p.m. (Eastern time) today, according to the Baltimore Sun.
McNair’s retirement makes it look certain that Baltimore will address this position with one of its first two draft picks. Maybe Matt Ryan if he’s available with the eighth pick (or via a tradeup). Or one of the other quarterbacks in the second round – Chad Henne, Brian Brohm or Joe Flacco.
McNair played well in his first season with Baltimore, but he struggled last season. He went only 2-4 as a starter, with only 2 TDs, and he was plagued by turnovers. He attempted only 205 passes but fumbled 8 times.
