Passing stats have been trending upwards for years, but the pass was truly raised in 2011. Throwing 30 TDs, remarkably, isn’t that big of a deal anymore. And the 4,000-yard mark for passers is now a yawner.
Prior to 2011, only five quarterbacks had thrown 40 touchdowns in a single season. Three different guys did it this year.
And four players passed for over 4,900 yards. Prior to this year, it had been done only twice.
