Weather could affect 49ers-Giants

Posted Jan. 21 at 03:39 PM

Weather could play a role in tomorrow's conference championship games. In New England, they're looking at about 32 degrees and winds up to 10 winds per hour. Not horrible weather, but not great.

The larger concern is in the Bay Area, where the forecast includes rains and winds close to 20 miles per hour. That according to the weather.com website.

With wind and footing issues, this could make things tougher on the kicking and passing games. On the other hand, lesser footing could play a bigger role with the defensive backs. When the Packers losted the Lions in Week 17, after all, the weather was less than ideal, but Matt Flynn passed for 480 yards and 6 TDs.

If the weather is so poor that passing is difficult, that should favor the 49ers. They have a better running game than the Giants, and they're also far better at defending the run. San Francisco ranked No. 1 in run defense in the regular season, while New York was last in rushing.
