The Carolina Panthers will select a running back in this year’s draft, according to John Fox. Whether that player comes in the first, second or third round remains to be seen.
That’s the word in a team draft preview put together by Charles Chandler of Charlotte.com. He has a position-by-position look at the Carolina’s needs and what’s available in the draft.
According to this preview, it seems that Carolina would love to get its hands on Matt Ryan, but that selecting an offensive lineman in the first round is more likely – maybe Ryan Clady of Boise State or Jeff Otah of Pitt.
Running backs that might interest Carolina in round two, according to this article, include Ray Rice (Rutgers), Jamaal Charles (Texas) and Chris Johnson (East Carolina). If the team waits until the third round on a back, it probably would be Kevin Smith (Central Florida) or Matt Forte (Tulane).
