Factoid
Patrick Peterson's 4 punt return touchdowns last season tied an NFL record held by three other players, including Chicago's Devin Hester. It's no surprise, then, that a look at the best defenses in TD-only formats over the last two seasons includes both Arizona and Chicago at the top of the rankings.
Over the last two seasons (and Peterson was a rookie last year), Chicago and Arizona both have 6 touchdowns on punt and kick returns. That's 2 more than any other team, and at least twice as many as 27 of the league's teams. (It can be debated how much it matters; the Super Bowl Champion Giants are one of two teams that don't have any return touchdowns in those seasons.)
Below are the numbers for combined punt and kick return touchdowns over the last two seasons, followed by the numbers for total defensive and special teams points (both returns and defensive touchdowns, as well as safeties) in those two years. Buoyed by Peterson and Hester, Arizona and Chicago top both lists.
