Seahawks / short-yardage rushing

Posted Mar. 21 at 09:47 AM

The Seahawks look like a team on the rise. Their defense played very well, particularly during the second half of last season. They’ve drafted a bunch of offensive linemen in recent years, and now they’ve added Matt Flynn to potentially shore themselves up at quarterback.

When the Seahawks were expressing interest in Peyton Manning, there were some knocks against their receiving corps, but I disagree. I think it’s one of the deepest groups in the league. Sidney Rice is a No. 1 receiver, I think. And they seem to be pretty deep with a bunch of other contributors. Doug Baldwin had the big rookie year in the slot. Golden Tate came on at the end of the year. Mike Williams fizzled last year, but he was outstanding in 2010. Ben Obomanu. They could be OK there.

Also note that Flynn won’t be overtaxed in this offense. Seattle can run the ball. They’ve got Marshawn Lynch, and they’ve got a nice line – one that got a lot better in the second half of last season.

Look at the short-yardage stats below. In terms of punching out some tough yards between the tackles, Seattle was the best team in the league.

I think they have improved but I'm skeptical about hinging their bets on a QB who has only two career starts. I think a guy should have a good year as a starter to honestly prove his value
