The Chargers have an unsettled kicking situation. They’ve got Nate Kaeding coming off an ACL injury in his plant leg. He’s the all-time leader in field goal accuracy, at 86.5 percent. And they’ve got Nick Novak, who’s got a slightly stronger leg and did a pretty good job filling in last year.
Novak is also a lot cheaper -- $700,000 vs. $2 million for the 2012 season.
Whichever one of these kickers winds up with the job will have a solid chance of being a top-10 scorer at this position. The Chargers have scored 403 kicking points in the last three years; that’s the 4th-most in NFL history.
