Kansas City and Minnesota have completed a trade sending Jared Allen to the Vikings for multiple draft picks.
Kansas City, according to reports, will receive the 17th pick of the draft, plus two third-round picks (both in this year’s draft).
The Vikings add Allen to a defensive line that already includes maybe the best pair of tackles in the league – Kevin Williams and Pat Williams.
With the Williams boys clogging up the middle, Minnesota ranked No. 1 in run defense last year. But the Vikings ranked last in pass defense (in part because teams stopped even trying to run on them). That’s why the addition of Allen is particularly interesting: He led the league in sacks last year, and he’ll get plenty of opportunities to rush the quarterback in this season.
With Kansas City having lost Allen, it could look to select a defensive end – Vernon Gholston or Chris Long – with the 5th pick in the draft. Adam Teicher has more on the trade in today’s Kansas City Star.
