Rookie runners / late first round

Posted Apr. 27 at 12:37 AM

The first round closed with running backs being selected with the final two picks. Doug Martin (Tampa Bay) and David Wilson (Giants).

Running backs selected in this part of the draft, however, haven’t typically had a lot of success – at least not as rookies. There’s a difference between being selected in the top 10 and the bottom 10 of the first round.

Below is the rundown of all running backs selected between 25th and 35th in the last 15 years, along with their total yards (run-rec) and total touchdowns as rookies. Not a lot of fantasy impact here.

Both Martin and Wilson project to be in committee-type situations this year, with Martin probably splitting time with LeGarrette Blount and Wilson sharing time with Ahmad Bradshaw.
