Around the NFL
NFL teams make mistakes in player evaluations all the time, so you can't always have faith when they fall in love with a player. Still, with only four wideouts off the board and likely opportunities to trade down, the Rams still liked Brian Quick enough to stay put and select him with the top pick of the second round.
So far, so good; the Rams are "insanely excited" about Quick, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. Given that the team has very little in the way of established receivers ahead of him, Quick has a good shot to enter the season as a starter and perhaps even the team's top wideout.
Quick's a big receiver (6-3, 220), but according to Rapoport he moves like a smaller player, getting in and out of breaks well and moving "nimbly." Didn't drop anything, either.
There were 13 wideouts selected in the draft's first three rounds, so there are a lot of intriguing rookies. Like the Bengals, discussed briefly yesterday, the Rams took a pair of potential starters in Quick and Chris Givens. Should be fun watching which ones emerge this season.
