Success rates of wideouts selected in second round

Posted May. 14 at 08:09 AM

There are some promising rookie receivers who were selected in the second round. Brian Quick (Rams) and Stephen Hill (Jets) should start right away. Rueben Randle of the Giants should fill Mario Manningham’s spot and he supposedly looks good. And Alshon Jeffrey may start for the Bears.

The reality, though, is that the odds are stacked against you trying to latch onto a successful receiver picked at that point in the draft. It just doesn’t happen often.

In the last 10 years, there have been a few. Anquan Boldin was great. Eddie Royal and DeSean Jackson. Torrey Smith was OK last year.

But there have been 44 receivers selected in the last 10 years, and that’s about it as far as success stories.

Note, by the way, that on the stats below, “touchdowns” includes other scores. Jackson, for example, caught only 2 TDs; he also scored on a run and a punt return that season.
