Fantasy News
Part of playing fantasy football is pretending like you’re an actual NFL GM. Right? With that in mind, I have traded down in the Fanex “FAD” draft. Twice.
I used the 4.12 pick on Mile Austin. I believe that gives me three top-10 receivers in this PPR format. He should be a monster this year; he’s just had injury issues the last two years, but I don’t see any reason to believe that will happen again.
I was stuck, however, on who to take a 5.01. There are a half-dozen wide receivers on the board I like, but not much difference between those guys. I sent offers, therefore, to the other 11 others, trying to move down while improving 6.12 and picking up a little extra position in the later rounds.
T.C. Cannon agreed to a deal. He wanted to come up and get Matt Ryan.
But that moved me down only two spots. So I sent out another batch of trade offers. This time, Greg Kellogg accepted a deal. Again, I swapped 5th- and 6th-round picks, so know I might get lucky and get one of those guys I like in the early next round.
Nine quarterbacks have been selected in this draft. The two other owners who haven’t selected quarterbacks are sitting at the end of this round, holding picks 5.11, 5.12, 6.01 and 6.02. I’m now picking right before those four picks, so I could potentially use choice 5.09 on Philip Rivers or Tony Romo.
There are also still five wide receivers I like. I would love to see one of them available at 6.04. If it comes down to a fourth good receiver or Romo or Rivers, I’m not sure which route I’ll go.

Look to draft two QB's back to back at this point especially in a best ball format like this.

A little early, I think, to go after a second quarterback. I still have only one running back on my roster.

Well its only June and its always interesting how much players rankings and viewpoints change in late August

Does it seem like a reach on the 2 TEs that are drafted so far? It would be nice to have either of those guys, but it seems like you'd be scrambling at other positions.

Gronkowski definitely seems like a reach. Seems reasonable that he and Hernandez could swap stat lines this year.

In a 12 team league I'd take either of those TE's in a heartbeat in the second round. I'd much rather pick from the lower WR's than accept the drop off from Gronkowski to Owen Daniels. (Although I am surprised to see Witten and Davis still sitting there in round 5 - if I could be sure that would happen every time I might change my mind). I also don't have any faith in the idea that Hernandez will take over in New England - they use him more like a wideout and they have too many of those guys sharing time. Gronk will still be the man.

The trade down worked fine. I took Eric Decker at 5.09. He was the front-runner for the 5.01 spot, but I wasn't sure if I should take Antonio Brown or Demaryius Thomas instead. With Dwayne Bowe, Jeremy Maclin and Stevie Johnson all there, I felt a trade-down was merited (maybe I'd get one of those guys in the 6th with the improved draft position). It wasn't almost all wide receivers in the 5th, though, so I selected Decker.

All Bowe does is catch touchdowns...
