Factoid
Calvin Johnson had the unusual finish to last year. He went over 200 yards at Oakland and at Green Bay, then went over 200 in the playoff loss at New Orleans.
That’s three 200-yard games in four weeks. Has anybody done that before?
So I started sniffing around. We have all of the 100-yard games since 1978 on file.
Only once in the 34 seasons did any wide receiver have two 200-yard games in a season. That was Steve Smith in 2005. Like Johnson, one of Smith’s games came in the playoffs (at Chicago).
So Johnson is the only receiver with two 200-yard games in the same regular season.
Only a few select few have managed to go over 200 yards three times in a career. They’re listed below. Jerry Rice, with 5, is the only guy with more of these games than Johnson.
Note: I see that for the 17 games below, the teams with the 200-yard receivers went only 7-10. That’s surprising to me. I will run a check on all 200-yard receiving games to see how it compares.
