Bush hasn't gotten on track

Posted Apr. 27 at 03:08 AM

His final season at Southern Cal, Reggie Bush scored 19 TDs from an average of 32 yards. So when the Saints selected him No. 3 overall in 2006, it stood to reason that he was going to score a good chunk of longer-range touchdowns – maybe he won’t be a bellcow runner, but at least he’ll make a lot of big plays.

But it hasn’t happened.

Two years into his pro career, Bush is averaging only 3.7 yards per play. And his long run in two seasons is only 22 yards. He had a long of 18 as a rookie, and his long run last season went for only 22 yards. That’s the lowest of every running back in the league who’s carried the ball at least 200 times in the last two years.

Bush is vowing to work out harder and spend more time with the team in the offseason, but the Saints have to be getting nervous about their Heisman winner.
