WIN A SPOT IN THE EXPERTS POLL
Here’s your chance to earn a spot in the Experts Poll in the magazine. The "Fantasy Index Open" competition is back.
This competition is just like the regular Experts Poll that’s been part of Fantasy Football Index magazine for 22 years. You list your top 20 players at each position. At the end of the season, the highest scorer will be invited to compete against the industry experts in the regular experts poll in the 2013 edition of the magazine. (We’ll also likely find room for the runner-up to compete in either the Mock Draft or Mock Auction competition.)
Tom Duggan of Tewksbury, N.J., won the initial version of the Fantasy Index Open, outscoring about 40 other readers. That was kind of a last-minute, beta-test version of the concept. We may have more like 200 entries this year. Maybe even more, maybe less – we’ll see.
The deadline is early. All entries must be received by midnight Pacific time on Sunday, June 24. That’s because we want a true analyst/maven/genius to win. If the deadline were in the middle of July, everyone would have the benefit of simply copying the rankings from the magazine, with a change here or there. In this competition, we want to see what you know, using your own research.
Scoring system: 6 points for touchdowns, 4 for TD passes, 1 for every 10 run/rec yards, 1 for every 20 passing yards, 2 for 2-point conversions. Kicking points are standard. Defenses receive 2 points for takeaways and safeties, 1 for sacks and 6 for touchdowns scored on returns of takeaways, kicks and blocked kicks.
Entries will be scored using a complex system; in short, the higher you rank a player, the more he counts towards your score. If you rank a player first, his actual fantasy production will be multiplied by 30 (if Mason Crosby, for example, is your No. 1 kicker and scores 100 points, that will count for 3,000 points for you – 30 x 100). If you ranked Crosby second among kickers, you would get 2,900 points – 29 x 100. If you ranked Crosby 20th, that would count for 1,100 points – 30 x 11 (the 11 comes from 31 minus 20). For that process for all 120 players you rank, and that's your overall score.
This is a free contest, and there is no prize money involved. We’re just trying to see who’s the true fantasy master out there. And it's open to everybody -- no purchase is required to enter. It's an "open". You need not be a Fantasy Football Index subscriber.
This is a difficult and technically challenging competition. It's not for everyone. You don't simply draft a dozen guys. You must rank 120 different players, and they all contribute to your overall score in varying degrees. It's hard.
We have more detailed instructions we will send to those who are interested in competing, including an Excel sheet that must be used to record your picks. To request an official entry sheet, send an email to:

I'd plan on winning but what about the end of the Myan Calendar?
