Around the NFL
Play fantasy football long enough and you know what to expect from Mike Shanahan; the unexpected. His Washington backfield is shaping up that way again this season.
After Tim Hightower tore his ACL last year, the rushing offense belonged briefly to Ryan Torain, then Roy Helu, and then Evan Royster. Despite coming off that injury, many NFL observers believe that once again Hightower will be placed at the top of the running back depth chart.
According to Pro Football Weekly, there are durability concerns surrounding Roy Helu, and Evan Royster is viewed as more of a "situational back." Hightower is a capable inside runner, pass catcher, and blocker, which might give him the edge in the offense.
None of that makes a guy coming off a torn ACL a player to target, but it does make it exceedingly risky to count on Helu as a starter for your fantasy team. As anyone who has watched Shanahan operate in the past well knows.
And remember, there's still time for the team to take a liking to Ryan Torain yet again.
