Around the NFL
Ryan Tannehill isn't ready, and Matt Moore might not be good enough. Those two conditions could apparently lead to David Garrard being at least the early-season starter in Miami.
That was the report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, and to the Palm Beach Post, it makes a lot of sense. Garrrad was the one working with the starters at the practice sessions that were open to the media, plus the team's new offense appears to be a good fit for Garrard.
The paper believes Moore will get a long look but that Garrard is the early favorite. Fantasy coaches don't need to be overly excited about this battle; it's not going to be a great passing offense, and both players will probably start some games this year.
What is clear is that the rookie is a long way away from starting. At practices, Tannehill had difficulty throwing into traffic; we noted in the preseason magazine that Tannehill (a converted receiver) looks like he's still finding his way as a quarterback. If he starts at all this season, it will likely be as the No. 3 option.
