Around the NFL
Green Bay and Washington, I think, had the strangest drafts.
The Packers are extremely strong at wide receiver, with Donald Driver, Greg Jennings and James Jones, but they used their first pick (an early second-rounder) on Jordy Nelson of Kansas State. And then they grabbed another quarterback, Brian Brohm, late in the second, which may have Aaron Rodgers feeling a little nervous.
I wasn’t surprised that Washington used its first pick on a pass catcher – Devin Thomas in the early second round. But I didn’t expect the team to also pick up a tight end (Fred Davis) and another wide receiver (Malcolm Kelly) before the end of the second round. Santana Moss and Antwaan Randle El, I guess, can start getting nervous.
Washington already has Chris Cooley, on the of the game’s elite tight ends, so I’m not sure how Davis will fit in anytime in the near future.
Jason Reid wrote a preview article on these guys that can be seen at the Washington Post website.
