Bryant Johnson: many years, few touchdowns

Posted Jul. 29 at 04:12 PM

Houston recently signed Bryant Johnson, the wide receiver who began his career as a first-round pick with Arizona. Yawn. Johnson has been good enough to hang around in the league for nine years, but he’s never come close to making any kind of meaningful impact.

He’s caught only 16 TDs in nine years.

By my count, since the NFL moved to the 16-game season in 1978, 40 receivers have been selected in the first round and lasted at least nine seasons. Only one of these guys, Desmond Howard, has caught fewer touchdowns than Johnson.

Only one other (Mark Ingram) has caught fewer passes.

It's odd that way back when the Cardinals selected Johnson in the first round, they struck gold in the second round on another wide receiver -- Anquan Boldin.
