I heard an extensive interview with Mike Holmgren today on the local sportsradio station, and he had some interesting things to say.
Among the highlights:
Deion Branch almost certainly won’t be ready to play on opening day.
The Seahawks definitely will use a committee approach at running back, with Julius Jones, Maurice Morris and T.J. Duckett probably all having significant roles.
Marcus Tubbs just had a followup surgery on the knee that kept him out last year. The Seahawks need to get Tubbs healthy – and keep him healthy – to beef up their defensive line.
When Branch is out, Holmgren says he’d prefer to not move Bobby Engram into the featured flanker position in the team’s offense. Holmgren likes Engram in the slot on third downs. Instead, Holmgren wants a young guy to play flanker, most likely Courtney Taylor or Logan Payne. (No mention of Ben Obomanu).
Nate Burleson will play split end, and Holmgren envisions him having a much better season.
The interview in its entirety, with Mitch Levy of KJR-AM 950 in Seattle, can be heard online at the KJR website.
