Around the NFL
Injuries in preseason games are unfortunate, except when they're not -- at least in the eyes of fantasy coaches, anyway. Nobody was going to use an early pick on Brandon Jacobs or LaMichael James, but their injuries Saturday night make it much more appealing to select Frank Gore or Kendall Hunter.
Jacobs suffered a knee injury in last night's exhibition, while James injured an ankle. Jim Harbaugh says Jacobs' injury isn't season-ending, but he'll miss some time. James' injury was described as just a tweak, so maybe he'll be OK. Gore and Hunter owners can feel free to hope that's not the case.
With Jacobs out, the chances of Gore getting goal-line work increase dramatically. And any missed time for James is a plus for Hunter, since his types of plays are likely to be otherwise ticketed for the second-year back.
Not that anyone is rooting for injuries, of course, but we're just watching things here, and reacting to what happens. A less-crowded backfield isn't bad news for everyone.
