Factoid
If we’d posted a poll a month ago, “Which teams will have the worst offenses?”, the Colts and Jaguars might have finished 1st and 2nd in the voting. They might still rank in the bottom 5.
But those offenses have been oddly efficient in the preseason. They rank 1st and 2nd in scoring after the first two weeks.
Does that mean they’re headed for respectability? Or is it merely a sign that they take the preseason more seriously than a lot of other teams.
Well, below is a chart showing the highest-scoring preseason teams of the last 10 years. I’ve listed all teams averaging at least 25 points per game.
Of the top 17 teams on this list, all but 3 went on to rank in the top 12 in scoring in the regular season as well. Hmm …
The track record, however, isn’t as good for the five teams that scored 25-26 points per game. None of those teams ranked higher than 15th.
