Ravens / Ray Lewis injury

Posted Oct. 16 at 08:57 AM

It looks like the end of an era in Baltimore. Ray Lewis is out for the season with a torn triceps; he’s 37, and he seemed to be slipping anyway – his career could be over.

The Ravens also lost one of their starting cornerbacks, Lardarius Webb, for the season on Sunday. Ed Reed is getting old, and Terrell Suggs is still trying to work his way back from Achilles surgery. Suggs was the league’s Defensive MVP last season.

The Ravens have long been great on defense, but it looks like just a regular group now – an average-type defense at best.

That’s a far cry from what we typically see from this defense. Below is the chart showing that Baltimore has allowed fewer touchdowns than any other defense over the last 10 years. We’ve got them at 258 touchdowns allowed (in those 160 games). That’s 95 fewer than the average of the other 31 teams.
