Around the NFL
The Browns could be expecting a holdout from Kellen Winslow. He’s not attending their current voluntary workouts.
The Plain Dealer, a Cleveland-area newspaper, has a sit-down interview touching on various areas of the offense with coordinator Rob Chudzinski. In the article, written by Tony Grossi, there’s the Winslow blurb, as well as various other notes.
For example, Chudzinski likes what he’s seen from Donte Stallworth. “He's going to help us in a big area we need improvement on – run after catch. We were one of the best teams in the league in generating big plays, but most were from Derek throwing the ball down the field as opposed to catching the ball short and translating that into big plays. Donte's been able to do that in the past.”
The offensive coordinator thinks Brady Quinn is making good progress, and he says it’s possible Cleveland will use some formations with two tight ends. They drafted Martin Rucker, who’s a pass-catching tight end.
That will depend, of course, on Winslow showing up. After undergoing knee surgery, he wasn’t expected to participate in these workouts, but he also simply didn’t even show up. The workouts, however, aren’t mandatory.
