Fanex draft: wide receivers vs. running backs

Posted May. 18 at 12:14 AM

One of the players I was hoping would slip to 4.05 made it through.

Brandon Marshall was picked two spots earlier, but Wes Welker made it to me. I consider those two guys to be the last of the nine coveted receivers in this draft.

Reminder about the scoring system: 1 point per reception. That's huge. And that's why, with my last three picks, I've gone with three of the receivers who might catch 100 passes. If you make the reasonable assumption that Welker finishes this season with 100 catches, 1,000 yards and 6 TDs, that's 236 points in this format - more than 15 of the 23 running backs who've been selected.

With teams required to start three wide receivers plus a flex player, teams really need four or five good wide receivers in this league, but there aren't that many good wide receivers to go around.

Plus, this is a no waiver moves league. That tilts things in favor of wide receivers (versus running backs). Wide receivers tend to stay healthy for 16 games, while the attrition rate is high for running backs. This team I’m putting together may look unconventional to some, but it will be just fine.

Teams start 3 WR, 2 RB, QB, TE, PK, DEF and one flex (WR-RB-TE) player. 18-man rosters. No waiver moves. No lineups (it's a best-ball format). High score after 17 NFL weeks wins.
