Bob Henry wins running backs category

Posted Jan. 12 at 03:40 PM

Bob Henry of Football Guys is the winner of the running backs portion of our experts poll. He was able to outperform the other 19 analysts in this category.

Every pick is graded in varying degrees, but Henry appears to have benefitted the most from being in the minority that had confidence in the rookie runners. He ranked Trent Richardson 5th, the 2nd-highest of anyone, and was one of only eight who included Doug Martin in their top 20.

Michael Nazarek of Fantasy Football Mastermind finished in 2nd in this category. Scott Pianowski of Yahoo! Sports took third.

Scott Sachs, meanwhile, seems to have a death grip on the overall title. He finished below-average in this category but still holds almost a 5,000-point lead with only quarterbacks left to report. Chris Liss of Rotowire is in 2nd place overall, followed by Cory Bonini of KFFL.

The top 11 finishers in this competition earn berths in the mock draft league that’s run through the magazine.

Scoring in this competition is complex. Every pick made by every expert is scored. The higher you rank a player, the more his actual production counts in your score. Doug Martin, for example, scored 264.6 points. Those who didn’t put Martin in their top 20 got nothing for him (they received credit for other players). Henry ranked him 16th, so he received 3,969 points for that choice (15 x 264.6). Had Henry ranked Martin 20th, he would have received 2,911 points (11 x 264.6). Had he ranked him 1st, he would have received 7,938 points (30 x 264.6).

It’s complex. It’s probably less scientifically valid that it looks. Injuries play a huge role in this scoring format. But it’s one way of grading the picks. And Henry came out on top in this one.
