Do you think the Giants wish they'd accepted the reported draft-day offer of a second-round pick for Jeremy Shockey from the Saints?
At this point, as it becomes clear the team has little choice but to trade him, Shockey's value might not be that high.
An ugly situation turned incendiary this week, when Shockey apparently got into a shouting match with general manager Jerry Reese at the team's minicamp. That was the latest in a string of public disagreements between the team and the tight end over the past year, everything from Shockey's role in the offense to his treatment after suffering a season-ending injury and (naturally, since he's a Drew Rosenhaus client) his contract.
At this point, a trade is probably best for both parties (not to mention fantasy owners). If Shockey remains with the Giants, he's probably going to lose more reps to Kevin Boss and Darcy Johnson -- and that's assuming he doesn't act up and either earn a team suspension or at best give less than maximum effort. With a new team, in contrast, he'd have some extra motivation to show the Giants were wrong to trade him.
The New York Daily News talks about the latest Shockey incident at this link.
