Around the NFL
As I’ve mentioned a few times in recent weeks, I’m not a big fan of Vernon Davis. I think he lacks good football instincts, and I don’t know that he’ll be used effectively by Mike Martz.
In today’s edition of the Sacramento Bee, however, Martz says that he’s blown away by Davis’ speed and can’t wait to put him to good use.
“When Vernon Davis watches film of Mike Martz's past offenses, he doesn't follow the tight end,” the article reads. “He is told instead to watch receivers Isaac Bruce or Torry Holt streaking downfield.”
And says Martz: "I don't know if anyone in the league can run like he can at that position. He gets down the field so fast. I don't know who beats him in a footrace."
Whether any of this June praise results in September production, of course, remains to be seen. Martz spent the last offseason gushing about Tatum Bell, then gave up on him a month into the season. And he’s been wildly optimistic about players in the past, including Trung Canidate.

Wasn't he also 'blown away' by Trung Canidate? And Kevin Jones.. And Tatum Bell.. I'm sure there is one every year.
