Strahan thinks Giants should dump Shockey

Posted Jun. 25 at 02:44 AM

Michael Strahan thinks the Giants should trade Jeremy Shockey.

“He doesn’t want to play here; that’s obvious with everything that’s going on,” Strahan said yesterday after being introduced as the newest member of the Fox pregame show. “I don’t think you gain much by keeping a guy around. Regardless of how well he plays for you, there’s always that tension, and that’s one thing you can’t have if you’re expected to go back and repeat.”

Strahan’s comments appear in print at Newsday.com.

“I think the best thing for them and for Shockey is if they have the opportunity, let him go,” Strahan said.

The Giants had a chance in April to trade Shockey to New Orleans for a second-round pick but declined – they tried to get the Saints to include more in the deal. Now a trade with New Orleans (or any other team) is far less likely. J.P. Pelzman of NorthJersey.com says he'd like to see the Giants trade Shockey to the Jets for Chris Baker, who's also upset with his team. But that deal is unlikely - the Giants probably don't have any interest in Baker.

I wonder if there's some kind of rule that after you retire from the Giants you have to immediately accept a network job and then say something controversial about the team and/or its players. First Tiki Barber, now Strahan. A year from now maybe it will be Amani Toomer.
