Boldin might hold out

Posted Jun. 26 at 11:25 PM

Anquan Boldin says he isn’t sure if he’ll report for training camp. He’s definitely looking for a new contract, but he’s unsure if sitting out during training camp would be a good negotiating strategy.

That’s what appears in a recent report by Darren Urban, the former newspaper beat writer who’s now working for the actual team (his story appears at the team’s official web site).

Boldin sat out all four weeks of the team’s voluntary activities, but sitting out during training camp itself raises the stakes. The Cardinals definitely want him in camp, but they could potentially play hardball, fining Boldin $15,000 for each day missed.

“I honestly can’t say at this point,” Boldin said in a text message to Urban.

Arizona GM Rod Graves says the team considers Boldin an important player but isn’t promising a new deal. “We stand by what we have always said, which is that Anquan is a key member of our core group. We believe we are building something special, and we’re counting on the core players to achieve those goals.”

The Cardinals don’t have much beyond Larry Fitzgerald and Boldin at wide receiver. Bryant Johnson signed a free-agent deal with San Francisco in the offseason, probably leaving the team with Jerheme Urban or rookie Early Doucet as their third receiver.

This article can be accessed at the team’s official site.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if Steve Breaston grabs that 3rd WR job. There was an article earlier this week talking about how he was improved from last season in minicamp. http://www.azcentral.com/members/Blog/DanBickley/26379
