Tomlinson wants your vote

Posted Jul. 17 at 01:32 PM

I remember the days in the late ‘80s when I would call magazine distributors on the phone, trying to convince them that a fantasy football magazine was worth putting in stores. About two thirds of those guys hadn’t even heard of the game.

Those days are long gone.

LaDainian Tomlinson on Thursday, with FOX SPORTS picking up the bill, was in New York City, “campaigning” to be the No. 1 pick in fantasy drafts this fall. The publicity stunt was part of a promotion for that company’s fantasy games, and presumably will be aired on that network in August and September.

"I should be the No. 1 pick because I'm proven," Tomlinson said in a story that moved on the The Associated Press . His appearances are being accompanied by an "LT in '08" media blitz.

Yes, fantasy football is definitely mainstream now.

I have the #1 pick, for whatever reason I've been having cold feet about picking LT, now this......bad karma. At least Ian FFI didn't put him on the cover (wink, wink)

L.T. is still #1 but the gap will be closing next year! You know he is playing the second easiest schedule this year which will give him atleast one more solid year! If he can stay healthy, and they dont get out to huge leads and pull him. There are very few 4 down backs out there, and L.T. is one of them! How many passes did A.P. have last year anyway? Anyone with the stones to not take him with the first pick may be pounding them into pebbles by Dec.!!!!

I didn't hear Scott Van Pelt. You'll have to send along the recap.

Hey, Ian, any concern about this movement by the MLBPA to label player statistics as "player personal property and imaging rights" or something crazy like that, so that players would get royalties on fantasy publications? Sounds ludicrous to me, but I figure you'd be the one who'd know if this has any legs.

In a nutshell,Scott VanPelt said that anyone who plays fantasy football is a dork! I guess if admitting you have a problem is half the battle," I'm a dork!" Scotty got his start in announcing golf matches so I'm sure the fast paced excitement of that would make everything else pale in comparrison! You can catch his comment on ESPN radio. They are playing it twice an hour! My wife thinks Scott has a great face for radio! Long live the DORKS!
