Moss, Evans, Jennings lead long-ball threats

Posted Aug. 05 at 09:02 PM

If you're in one of those leagues that gives extra credit for longer touchdowns, the chart below might be of interest to you. It shows the average distance of touchdowns scored by receivers in the last three years.

Seven receivers (among those with at least 15 TDs) have averaged over 30 yards on touchdown catches the last three years. And some of those names will be no surprise to you - Santana Moss, Lee Evans, Joey Galloway and Steve Smith. The other three in that 30-plus range include Greg Jennings (who caught a bunch of bombs last year), Kevin Curtis and Chad Johnson.

You may have been expecting to see Randy Moss in that group, but Moss also catches plenty of TDs around the goal line - that's what dragged his average down to 25 yards per TD.

Seven receivers, on the other hand, finished under the 20-yard mark. Included in that group are five of the league's well-known red-zone threats - Joe Jurevicius, Larry Fitzgerald, Torry Holt, T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Hines Ward. Also in there are Laveranues Coles and Chris Chambers.
