Around the NFL
Unable to repair their relationship or bring themselves to trade him within the NFC North, the Green Bay Packers are ending Brett Favre's tenure in Green Bay by trading him out of the division (but not the conference), reportedly sending him to Tampa Bay in a deal that will be official within the next 24 hours. Favre reportedly is willing to play in Tampa Bay, after not wanting to initially.
No word yet on compensation or what this will definitely mean for other players on the two rosters, but we can hazard a few guesses. Jeff Garcia, certainly, will be gone, probably before Favre even gets to town. Maybe HE'LL end up in Minnesota or Chicago. Tampa Bay's key offensive players look a lot more attractive: Joey Galloway; No. 2 Antonio Bryant, Michael Clayton, or Ike Hilliard; tight end Alex Smith; and running backs Earnest Graham and Warrick Dunn. Garcia is still a good quarterback, but he's not Favre.
And of course, Aaron Rodgers is now the unquestioned starter in Green Bay. The Packers, incidentally, play the Bucs in Tampa Bay in week 4.
As for Favre himself, although Green Bay would have given him his best chance to be successful this season, there are a lot of positives in place in Tampa Bay. Jon Gruden, of course, used to be on Mike Holmgren's coaching staff way back when. The Bucs have a good young offensive line, too.

Update: Apparently, the Favre to Tampa report is a little premature -- iit's still possible Favre could be traded out of the NFC, to the New York Jets. Read about that here.
